Sheneka & Shanice, 17 yrs old (members since 2004)

Twins, Shanice (far right) and Sheneka (left), now 17 years old, first joined Ebony Horse Club in 2004 when they were 8 years old.

After learning to ride through the club at various centres across London, they worked weekends and holidays at Willow Tree Riding School in Lewisham. When Ebony Horse Club opened, they gave up their jobs to volunteer at the Centre and became interested in following a career with horses.

From September 2011, Ebony Horse Club supported the twins in applying to Plumpton College (East Sussex), helping with application forms, interview preparation and accompanying them to a 2-day induction course. Both are currently studying for a BTEC Level 3 in Horse Management, having passed their British Horse Society Stage 1 exam in February 2013. Sheneka also received a special award for the highest mark at distinction level in July 2013.

During the summer college holidays, Ebony Horse Club employed both twins to work as grooms on the yard, with each providing an example to the younger riders of what can be achieved through an interest in horses and by following your dreams.

Sheneka and Shanice believe Ebony has given them opportunities they otherwise would never have imagined: “Ebony’s given us opportunities to progress and to meet top riders like Mary King and Carl Hester - and the Duchess of Cornwall when she opened the Ebony Horse Centre.”
